The New Person Must Make His Impact Felt From The First Day
ut this is really an abuse of the system rather than a proper use of it.
Trading is the whole basis of our civilisation. Without it, we would quickly return to being a primitive society. A prerequisite of all trade is the capital with which to trade. Companies can only raise this capital in a practical way if those who provide it can freely trade their investments. The Stock Exchange provides this service.
It is only by such means that banks, building societies, pension funds, insurance companies, etc., can earn the income with which to meet their commitments.
There can also be few objections on religious grounds. The Old Testament law did not prohibit interest payments on commercial deals, but did on loans to relieve poverty. In the New Testament, the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30) specifically commends earning income from investments. The Church of England currently derives 42% of its income from investments. Islamic law is stricter, but the problems have not proved insuperable.
Share prices provide a very quick and flexible measure of how a company is doing. This, in turn, provides a stimulus for the company to do well, which ultimately benefits the whole economy.
Don't the Stock Exchange Computers Keep Breaking Down?
